Bicycle Chic Fitzroy Style
Exhibition Gardens, Carlton. ‘No bikes allowed. Fines apply’. So says the notice painted on the footpath that I have just blithely ridden over, into the forbidden land. This park is too beautiful; I just have to cruise through it, smiling at and pedestrians as I gently swerve around them. I hope they understand.
I am not the only one. I had just stopped for a little sit down by the duck pond and was admiring a pied cormorant drying her wings, when my little bike radar went off.
The rider very graciously allowed me to photograph her Malvern Star, and very politely declined the invitation to be in the picture. Shame really, as she was the epitomy of bicycle chic. I can’t recall her full outfit, bit I do remember a print skirt, some very fine ankle boots and a stylish stack hat.
She said she got the bike made up by some chap on St Georges Road, I wonder if it’s the elusive Jimmy the Bike Man.
I gave her my calling card, which promises that the bike will be blogged in the next 48 hours… I missed the deadline. I wonder if she looked.
Since then I have seen her ride past my house twice in the last two days. What does it mean?
